Malabari cuisine is loved dearly within Malabar and beyond. The region has hosted guests from far and wide who travelled across the oceans to relish authentic Malabari delicacies. During the 1960s, KK Abdullah and EK Abdullah – the Abdullah friends, laid the foundation of Apna Bakery in Supa, Maharashtra. “It is an absolute joy to be surrounded by an abundance of the finest flavours that present one with a transcendental experience,” shares the Abdullahs. Their sheer passion for food and commitment to taking Malabari flavours across to more people led to the beginning of this establishment.
Our founders, the Abdullahs, grew up in Thalassery, Kerala. The region is known for its hospitality, flavours and food culture. One cannot pass by here without whiffing the aroma of the piquant foods of the region. If you are born in Thalassery, two things are guaranteed – 1) You grow up amidst a rich assortment of flavours and understand the textures of food 2) You will have an incessant obsession to serve this fabulous cuisine to more and more people. KK Abdullah and EK Abdullah, were no different. While most people were keen on serving the guests who visit their residences, these two friends carried the flavours, aroma and delight across to Pune. Back in the 60s, it was a surprising treat to catch the smell of freshly baked goods in a little village on a quiet highway. Everyone who dropped by out of curiosity was delighted by our offerings. Since then, much has changed, and today Apna Bakery stands as a prominent landmark enroute holy pilgrimage sites such as Sri Shirdi Saibaba Temple.
